2024 NBCS graduate Emily Iliffe attended the recent opening of the prestigious SHAPE Exhibition at Walsh Bay Arts Precinct where her Textiles and Design major project was featured amongst the best in the state.
SHAPE presents a selection of outstanding major projects by HSC Design and Technology, Industrial Technology and Textiles and Design students in NSW. Emily’s project was one of only 10 Textiles and Design projects on display.
Emily’s major work is inspired by ancient Greek culture and mythology, and features beading, goldwork and hand-dyed silk that is both biodegradable and renewable. Emily was joined at the opening by her family and NBCS Textiles teacher, Ms Gray.
“To be selected for SHAPE is an incredible honour and a remarkable achievement,” said Ms Gray. “As her teacher, it was particularly special to witness her hard work being recognized at such a high level in NSW. It was a truly proud moment for all of us.”
Emily is planning to study Commerce/Law at Macquarie University this year after she completes a few months of travel through Europe.
This is the second consecutive year that Ms Gray has had a student whose project was not only nominated but accepted into the SHAPE exhibition. She feels ‘incredibly fortunate’ and said, “I am immensely proud of their dedication and success.”
Two other 2024 HSC Textiles and Design students have been recognised for their exemplary major projects, with Samantha Hishon and Ella Tailby’s pieces being selected for the TexStyle exhibition at Gallery 76 in Concord West.
