Opportunities
Northern Beaches Challenge
The Northern Beaches Challenge is a program of positive acknowledgement of effort, achievement and progress in Years 5-12. For Senior Years the emphasis moves away from the teacher being the owner of the process. Students are encouraged, largely in Care Group Meetings, to track themselves in terms of their individual goals. Students apply for various levels of recognition culminating in the Gold Medallion awarded to many at the completion of Year 12.
Senior Student Leadership
NBCS has a large and involved Student Leadership Program which enables all interested students to participate. Training and activities begin in Years 9 & 10 with the introduction of Leadership Modules in the wide range of NBCS Accredited Elective Subject choices (Line 3 Electives). This one semester Leadership Course effectively prepares students for their participation in leadership roles. Students may, however, participate in leadership at any stage – whether or not they select the leadership elective.
The Student Leadership Team is established when students are in Year 11. This enables more thorough preparation of leaders and allows time for leaders to serve the school community. At the beginning of Year 12, incoming leadership from Year 11 allows Year 12 leaders to maintain their service whilst still being free to focus on their HSC studies.
The Student Leadership Team often supports projects such as fundraising for charity as well as day-to-day leadership of the student body.
