Pastoral Care
Care Group
Care Groups at NBCS are the core pastoral care activity. Care Group Teachers meet each week with approximately 12 students. The Care Teacher is the main conduit of communication between school and home. The Care Teacher generally remains with the same group of students for all of Year 10 through to Year 12. They attend Outdoor Education Week with their Group and are heavily involved in grade based activities including school formals, Australian Business Week and information breakfasts/ evenings.
The Care Group Team of teachers includes a Grade Convenor who has oversight of the grade.
Your Place
NBCS has high expectations of Senior Years students. Given their maturity, a mutually understood set of privileges and responsibilities is used to guide the student and the school in how best to respond to concerns and problems.
- Senior Years students have a distinct uniform designed by a committee including Senior Years students themselves. Year 12 have the option of wearing business attire on Fridays.
- Year 12 students share a common room, with the staff, in their break times.
- Senior Students have a flexible approach to their school work, accessing material from home and from Senior Study Rooms. A Variable Attendance pattern for some students allows them to work from home.
Young Drivers
At NBCS we are very aware of the importance of driving to senior students. Whilst providing a level of independence, driving comes with huge responsibilities. We are also aware of the terrible statistics relating to inexperienced drivers. We aim to assist in the process of learning to drive in a variety of ways. During Year 10, students will have talks and will view a DVD relating to driving skills. Year 11 and 12 students will have opportunities to attend informative sessions such as the Youth Driver Awareness Program and the Youth and Road Trauma Forum.
In addition, there is a learn.nbcs section called ‘L’s & ‘P’s which has a wealth of information relating to all aspects of the learning-to-drive process. This site has much to assist parents as well as students and has links to many valuable websites.
