Senior Years
Academic Overview
Curriculum & HSC Electives
NBCS offers a wide variety of elective choices in the Senior Years.
The introduction of online options has provided more flexibility and greater choice. Through Care Group and Grade Meetings from early in Year 10 we work with students to identify their interests, their strengths and their goals. This process enables students, parents and staff to be confident that the path mapped out for the student in terms of elective choices, is appropriate. Further support is provided in the mandatory Year 10 course Ready For Work and through individual appointments with the Coordinator of Life-long Learning.
Mentoring
The mentoring programs are in place to help students realize their goals. At NBCS we believe students need a significant adult in their life who can address important areas that can be contentious for parents.
These areas include:
- balancing life between recreational and academic pursuits
- hints for success
- organizational tips
- measuring performance
- locating and using resources
Study Facilities & Blended Learning
Two supervised, technology rich classrooms are available to Senior Students throughout the week to complete their work. Most Senior Years classes are delivered in a blended learning format. This means that content and activities are made available to students on the school portal, learn.nbcs and hsconline.nsw.edu.au. Students access the portal in class, during break times and study periods and from home. Tasks are submitted, and in some cases marked, online. If students or teachers are ever absent, productive work continues.
All NBCS classrooms have mounted digital projectors that teachers use to link between the physical and the virtual.
