Primary Years

Opportunities
Education at NBCS is supplemented by a wide-array of academic and co-curricular opportunities, including Sport, Music (Band, Choirs and Instrumentation programs), Art, Drama, Dance, Chess and Leadership development.
These opportunities are structured to accommodate different ages and ability levels. Leadership, for example, is strategically sequenced across the grades from Primary to Year 12. This gives students the chance to develop leadership skills as they grow, articulating those skills in appropriate forums that change as they mature.
Sport
Each Friday, all students in Years 3-6 have combined Sport. A wide variety of games and sports are experienced, including soccer, basketball, softball, rugby, cricket and many more. Students with particular talents in sports may be selected to play in the inter-school competitions against a number of local independent schools, as well as many other inter-school opportunities.
All Primary classes have Physical Education lessons each week. Classes in Kindergarten to Year 2 engage in a fitness program together, three mornings per week. During PE lessons, gross and fine motor skills are taught and developed.
Performing Arts
NBCS offers opportunities in the creative and performing arts, in Dance, Visual Arts and Music. There are a wide-range of groups and ensembles that students can join in Primary, each tailored different genres and styles.
Dance Ensembles provide students with the opportunity to develop and refine their technical skills in a variety of dance styles and experiences. Ensembles are led and taught by capable Dance Tutors. Current Primary ensembles include Kindy and Infants groups, Primary Boys and the Primary Dance Ensemble.
The Band program at NBCS offers support, encouragement and performance opportunities for students of all abilities and experience levels. Groups and ensembles available to students in Years 3-6 include the Training Band, Concert Band, Woodwind Ensemble, Primary Rock Band and Primary Choir. Certain groups have additional entry requirements, but allow everyone the opportunity to learn and grow in their musical ability.
Private music tuition is available on-site for guitar, drums, piano, vocal, saxophone, brass, flute and clarinet.
Private music tuition and most groups and ensembles attract addition fees, billed to your School Fees invoice or directly to the tutor.
Camps & Outdoor Education
Outdoor education experiences are provided for all students K-6. These opportunities provide powerful times of team building, personal growth and faith development. These commanding opportunities are currently held in conjunction Camp Crusaders for Christ. The students visit locations in Winmalee, Galston and Lake Macquarie.
Student Leadership
Leadership in the Primary Years mirrors the Secondary framework. Student leaders have a number of portfolios each to oversee, for example, running k-6 assemblies, assisting teachers with playground duties, school environment maintenance and sports leadership. The student leadership team is involved in a number of incursions designed to develop their understanding of and skills in their areas of specialty.
Missions focus (fundraising & support)
The Primary Years at NBCS are outstanding carers. All students work together for our Primary Years World Vision Sponsor Child, and they all enjoy and actively participate in the support of the Senior Years annual mission trip to a Cambodian orphanage. The generosity of the students is an incredible credit to their love and concern for those less fortunate than themselves.
