Northern Beaches Christian School (NBCS)

Excellence in Education, Christianity in Action

A Rich Heritage

Founded in 1981, NBCS has been providing quality education for over 25 years. The school was established by a dedicated group of people from Northern Beaches Christian Centre, led by Pastor Paul O’Sullivan, who had a vision for a school where their children would be educated with Christian values. Starting with only 38 students, NBCS used a church hall in Vineyard Street, Mona Vale. Needing a permanent home, the school was moved to Terrey Hills, initially located on Booralie Road, before purchasing the current Echunga Road campus in 1984. The first building on the new land was officially opened on 27th April, 1986, by this stage with 180 students.

From the very beginning, NBCS was built on a strong community. It was the dedication and generosity of many parents and friends who, through working bees and building projects, saw the school grow, both in the number of students and in new facilities.

Bright Future

Today, the school is an independent, not-for-profit organization, led by a highly able Board of Directors who hold a firm vision to further education and seeing young lives transformed. Under the leadership of Principal, Stephen Harris, the school has grown to over a thousand students, and has won multiple awards acknowledging the hard-work and dedication of the staff to deliver a contemporary, innovative education.

Northern Beaches Christian School is committed to finding new ideas in order to continually improve learning for students. Whether it is enhancing face-to-face teaching with a range of custom online learning environments, or creating an engaging learning environment for Years 7 and 8 with the Global Learning Village, NBCS is forward-focused, intent on opening new opportunities for collaboration and meaningful interaction between students.

In 2005, NBCS established SCIL – Sydney Centre for Innovation in Learning – as a research and development unit, focused on continually improving the education at NBCS. Today, SCIL provides services to other schools in order to raise standards in education, as well as delivering online distance education to hundreds of students in NSW.
