Northern Beaches Christian School (NBCS)

Excellence in Education, Christianity in Action

Middle Years

Academic Overview

Students in the Middle Years at Northern Beaches Christian School are given opportunities to experience the full range of subjects across the curriculum.

AIM Extension Class

Students entering Year 7 have the opportunity to sit an entrance test for the AIM class. Students successful in receiving a place in this class will remain with the same class for Year 7 & 8. This class attracts students with the capacity to work at a higher level and each individual student is encouraged to extend themselves in this unique and challenging learning environment. For more information about entrance tests for our extension classes, please contact our Enrolment Office.

Home Class Program

To aid in the transition from Primary School to Secondary School NBCS has set up Home Classes in Years 7 & 8. Year 7 Home Classes are for around one third of their classes with a Home Class Teacher (generally English, History, Geography, Christian Studies, Drama, Learning to Learn and Computers) and in Year 8 around a quarter of their lesson time is spent with the Home Class Teacher (English, History, Geography, Christian Studies). Students have found the Home Class Program beneficial by reducing the number of teachers and an increased depth of relationship with their class peers and teachers.

Years 7 & 8

The Global Learning Village, which opened in 2008, is a new concept in educational thinking which provides an innovative, flexible learning environment incorporating new technologies. Within the physical learning environment of the Global Learning Village students are learning through innovative pedagogy, including the Year 7 & 8 Matrix.

The Matrix is an integrated project based program focusing on teaching our students the skills they will need to meet the challenges of the 21st Century. They are developing into independent and team learners eagerly able to face all learning opportunities.
